As the FIRST ECOLODGE in Sri Lanka, classified by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), the property sets an exemplary standard for responsible tourism through its thoughtful sustainable initiatives.

Resposible Tourism

In order to conserve Sri Lanka's unique and rich biodiversity, The Rainforest Ecolodge has launched a strategy to promote responsible tourism by being a role model of sustainable practices. The property is benchmarked for ecotourism by environmental best practices, community outreach programs, support to conserve the Sinharaja rainforest, awareness campaigns, and sustainability evaluations.

Community Village Project

The Rainforest Ecolodge initiated a project to uplift a tea worker community in an area with fewer privileges. At the outset of the project, steps were taken to improve the basic facilities of the tea worker community and develop a long-term strategy to empower them. Over time, the community began to benefit from a partnership with The Rainforest Ecolodge and its operations, serving as a full-time labor force within the Enselwatte Tea Estate, where the property is situated.
