Community Village Project

Uplifting the well-being of tea plantation workers

The Rainforest Ecolodge identified a local community of tea plantation workers in the area, consisting of 37 families, who lived in isolated and impoverished conditions. The main objective of the project was to prioritize the enhancement of their basic facilities. Simultaneously, a long-term strategy was devised to empower them by providing opportunities that would become available once The Rainforest Ecolodge was established.

Main objectives of the project
  • Upgrading basic facilities for the local community.
  • Offer employment opportunites to local tea workers.
  • Incorporating the local community in best eco-tourism practices.
  • Rehabilitation of the community.

Life-changing empowerment

As a sustainable long-term development objective aimed at uplifting the quality of life for the neighboring tea estate community with their active involvement, The Rainforest Ecolodge has initiated a community outreach program.

The local tea worker community in the area consisted of 37 families enduring impoverished conditions and lacking access to basic facilities. The primary goal of the project was to address this pressing need and immediately improve their living conditions.

Through this unique eco-tourism project, The Rainforest Ecolodge has aimed to provide full-time employment opportunities to the members of the resident community within the 25 hectares of tea plantation where the property is located. Moreover, the community’s relationship with their natural surroundings differed from traditional rainforest communities, who have a deep and longstanding bond with their forest environment. The lack of traditional craft skills among the community members posed a challenge to the project’s community development objectives.

The community outreach program has had a transformative impact on the members of the community over time. It presented them with the chance to become full-time employees at the tea estate, granting them stable employment and a dependable source of income. This transition marked a pivotal moment in their lives, empowering them with newfound stability, security, and confidence.
