Sinharaja Forest

A TREASURE TROVE BRIMMING
WITH LIFE AND NATURE

Covering an area of over 8,000 hectares, the Sinharaja Forest is located in between the Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces, with four ways of access through the Northwest, Northeast, Southwest and Southeast. Roughly 70km from the coastal city of Galle, it is a famed final remnant of undisturbed evergreen forest in Sri Lanka. Designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, within its embrace lies an intricate ecosystem, and the rainforest itself is home to a high concentration of endemic flora and fauna, including those of a high rarity – rare species like the elusive Green Pit Viper among the trees, and the striking Sri Lanka Blue Magpie gliding along the as a streak of blue.

Home to 830 different endemic species, the primary tropical rainforest remains an important facet of interest for studying biological evolution and is a mainstay for the progress of the sciences as well as providing many opportunities for plenty for admirers of natural art, adventurous souls, and wildlife photographers to stay and witness the grandeur.
