Endemic Species of Sinharaja

FROM THRUSHES, TO MACAQUES, TO PALM TREES - ENDEMIC LIFE FLOURISHES.

With over 830 different endemic species (including both floral and faunal) where at least 139 endemic plant species lie within the two main types of forest — the remnants of Dipterocarpus species along the valleys, as well as the secondary forest and scrub area, where the original forest once stood. The endemism rate within the property is considered extremely high even for fauna — mammals, birds, and butterflies endemism rates are over 50%, with specifically endangered species such as the Purple-faced Leaf Monkey making an occasional appearance, and smaller critters such as the Tree Nymph butterfly subtly joining the chorus.
