There are at least 139 endemic plant species in the vegetation of the Sinharaja forest — but not all of them have as useful benefits to health and medicine as some do. However, as useful as they are, they remain threatened due to natural habitat destruction and degradation of micro-ecosystems. Its value as a resource to a bioresource-rich country like Sri Lanka is well known, with potential revenue garnered from medicinal purposes, or pharmaceutical development.
