SLITHERING AWAY, BURROWING DEEP, THE JUNGLE REPTILES HIDE FROM SIGHT

With a grand total of 71 species belonging to nine families, the reptilian population of Sinharaja is large, varied, and beautiful. Half of these species are endemic to the forest, and 33 of them are considered nationally threatened. Many agamid lizard species make their home here, the most popular being the Hump-Snout Lizard, easily recognized by the knob on the nose of its vibrant green body. If lucky, visitors will also be able to witness the bipedal escape method of the Kangaroo lizard, a strange sight to witness from its kind. Watch out for the snakes however — venomous snakes can range from irritations to downright dangers.

DWELLING IN MANY FORMS, IN MANY PARTS OF THE FOREST CANOPY, THESE FURTIVE CREATURES CONTINUE TO HUNT.
